"Modern civilization is so complex as to make the devotional life all but impossible. It wears us out by multiplying distractions and beats us down by destroying our solitude, where otherwise we might drink and renew our strength before going out to face the world again."
Of God and Men, 103.
I've read only a few of Tozers quotes and book excerpts, and yet in those few I am truly intrigued by his statements. The above quote is a small summary of an excerpt passed on to me from my aunt and uncle. It is a comfort and a lesson to me to see a couple in their fifties finding wisdom in Tozer's statement, so much so that they are looking to change portions of their life to gain solitude and rest.
I think I might give Tozer a try.
